Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make Valley Functional Wellness my primary care office?  Please call the office to schedule a consultation and we can decide how our services can best fit your needs.

Should you have a primary care physician?  Yes.  Your PCP is important in addressing acute illness and managing serious chronic illness.  They should be available to offer routine vaccinations and screenings in the office as well as evaluate acute illness, order STAT labs and imaging, and offer on-call services.  Those are services, that at this time, this office cannot manage. Valley Functional Wellness does not provide on-call services, emergency care, provide in-office vaccinations, or manage serious chronic illnesses, such as chronic heart failure or kidney disease.

What if I JUST want help with weight loss or hormone therapy? Come on in! You don’t have to leave your PCP.

What if I JUST want to talk about skincare? Happy to chat, we have licensed aesthetician consultations available, and if you are in the state of Virginia, we can manage prescriptives, such as tretinoin, estriol and many others!

Do you see male patients? Absolutely! We are just as dedicated to helping our male patients acheive optimal health and vitality through individualized thorough treatment plans and support. At Valley Functional Wellness, we provide comprehensive care tailored to male patients, addressing their unique health needs with a holistic approach. Our services include testosterone therapy to support hormonal balance, personalized weight loss programs, and strategies focused on healthy aging and overall wellness promotion. We are dedicated to helping men achieve optimal health and vitality through individualized treatment plans and ongoing support.

Can you prescribe medicines?  Absolutely.  However, if there are tools available that can bring you back into balance and correct dysfunction that doesn’t involve daily medication, we will explore those options as well.  The supplement industry has minimal regulation in the United States. This office offers supplements from trusted sources that are tested and vetted to ensure quality and safety, and we are pleased to be able to offer them at a discounted price to established patients.

Does Valley Functional Wellness accept insurance?  Valley functional wellness operates on a membership model and your fees cover your visits. We are happy to generate a super bill that you can submit to insurance for reimbursment. Because there is no added constraint of managing insurance claims and tracking down reimbursement, there is more time for personlized, accessible patient care. We practice relationship based care here, not transactional semantics.

What about labs?  Depending on your needs, we often incorporate laboratory studies into assessment and treatment. We utilize insurance when we can, but also have a relationship with Quest Diagnostics for lower cost cash pay options. If lab studies are suggested and ordered as part of your visit, results will populate in your secure patient portal, where you and the provider will be able to access them. Valley Functional wellness is also happy to collaborate with your PCP to order and review labs as well as, with your permission, share office notes, treatment plans, and suggestions with them.  It is important that everyone participating in your care is on the same page.

Does Valley Functional Wellness treat chronic pain patients?  Absolutely, but this office does not take on, manage or implement regular opioid prescriptions.

Does Valley Functional Wellness accept pediatric patients? This office is happy to see children, however, this office does not provide services for pediatric primary care. There is no pediatrician on staff, this office does not keep a vaccine refrigerator, and does not have on-call availability or services. These are vital components of pediatric primary care.

Are Valley Functional Wellness services an HSA-allowable expense? You can always call your HSA card to find out what services are covered. Generally we have no problems being covered by HSA plans. We are happy to provide a super bill for you to send to your insurance for reimbursement.

Can I just come for a massage? Absolutely, you do not have to be an established patient in the office to utilize massage therapy services. Established patients do not have to utilize services in this office, we are happy to provide referrals and recommendations as needed.
